THE STUDY ON DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT OF LAND AND WATER RESOURCES FOR SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE IN MIZORAM

            A study project entitled, ‘The study on Development and Management of Land and Water Resources for Sustainable Agriculture in Mizoram’ was taken up for a period of 20 months from September 2013 to April 2015. The objectives of the study are as follows:-

  1. To rely its basis on the overall analysis of the current status and development potential of the land and water resources and socioeconomic situations of agriculture in Mizoram
  2. To formulate a Master Plan for the sustainable improvement of the livelihood of farmers that is suitable for the diversity of the state and
  3. To create and access the validity of the DPR formulation model for the participatory minor irrigation project and model DPR through lateral participation of various agricultural departments and farmers.

 

THE PROJECT ON CAPACITY ENHANCEMENT FOR SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE AND IRRIGATION DEVELOPMENT IN MIZORAM

                        A Technical Cooperation Project entitled, ‘The project on Capacity Enhancement for Sustainable Agriculture and Irrigation Development in Mizoram’ is formulated as an outcome of three years study project in Mizoram named ‘The Study on Development and Management of Land and Water Resources for Sustainable Agriculture in Mizoram’ conducted by JICA during 2013 to 2015. The project will be executed by Minor Irrigation Department (MID), Department of Agriculture (DOA), Department of Horticulture (DOH), Soil and Water Conservation Department (SWCD) with Minor Irrigation Department as Nodal Department in the State of Mizoram for a period of five years.

                        The overall goal of the project is sustainable agriculture and irrigation development in Mizoram which shall be achieved through-

  1. Developing methods for sustainable agriculture and irrigation development.
  2. Enhancing the capacity of the state government officials, in planning and implementation of sustainable agriculture and irrigation development.
  3. Establishing collaborative implementation framework among the state government departments, in the field of sustainable agriculture and irrigation development.      

 

Priority areas (pilot projects) selected in the Master plan under this project are – Bilkhawthlir, Aibawk, Serchhip and Champhai.

Record of Discussion on the project had been signed between Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) represented by Takema Sakamoto, Chief Representative and Govt. of Mizoram represented by Lalmalsawma, Chief Secretary on 26th October, 2016.
